I pray that out of his glorious riches he may strengthen you with power through his Spirit in your inner being.
Ephesians 3:16
One day a team of men were dynamiting a rock layer where an addition to a house was going to be built. They predrilled a layer of rock, loaded the holes with dynamite and then dragged a cable net over the site. The ignition caused an explosion that lifted the cable netting off the ground. Then the men dragged the net away and hauled the broken rocks out of the area. Eventually the excavation beside the house was deep enough to pour a footer and concrete floor. Interestingly, the surrounding land was still the same, but the work area was completely different from how it had been before.
Today’s verse from Ephesians speaks of being ‘strengthened with power through his Spirit in our inner being.’ As you probably know, the Greek word for ‘strength’ is dunamis, which is where we get our word dynamite. The power of God and His Word have some of the same effects that the dynamite in the above illustration. It completely changes us so that we are no longer the same. We have new desires, ambitions, motives, hopes, and goals. Those that knew us before our transformation in Christ can probably see the difference. Paul tells us in 1 Corinthians 5:17, “Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, the new creation has come: The old has gone, the new is here!”
We have no ability in ourselves to make this change. We might want things to be different, but we are powerless to help ourselves. We may even try desperately to change our lives, but we find ourselves still doing the things we don’t want to do and failing to do the things we should do. Praise God that we can experience His ‘dynamite’ in our lives and be personally strengthened with power through His Spirit in our inner being!
