“Whoever conceals their sins does not prosper, but the one who confesses and renounces them finds mercy. ” Proverbs 28:13
Years ago, several young men worked for a farmer who owned a small car. One day they decided to take the car for a drive without the owner’s permission. That night after the owner had gone to bed, these young guys went out to the barn and quietly backed the car out. They took off on a snow-covered road, but unfortunately slid, lost control and flipped the car. The boys managed to crawl out of the car, get it back on all fours and drove it back to the farm. Very carefully they parked it just where it had been so the owner wouldn’t know about their “little outing.”
Well, the next day the owner came in from the barn with a puzzled look on his face and asked the boys how those footprints had gotten on the side of his car. The guys realized they had been found out and had to confess to what they had done.
The above verse in Proverbs teaches us that there are consequences for sin, even if no one else knows about it. Galatians 6:7 says, Do not be deceived: God cannot be mocked. A man reaps what he sows. Nothing is hidden from God’s eyes — He can see through any ‘cover-up.’ His eyes are on the ways of mortals; he sees their every step (Job 34:21).
The New Testament says it this way: Nothing in all creation is hidden from God’s sight. Everything is uncovered and laid bare before the eyes of him to whom we must give account (Hebrews 4:13). We need to live a transparent life of complete honesty because He sees everything anyway. Let’s not miss out on God’s blessings because we think we can hide sin.
