Cast all your anxiety on him because he cares for you. 1 Peter 5:7
‘Casting all our anxieties on the Lord’ is one of those things that is easier said than done. In this life we all face difficulties of different kinds, uncertainties that we can’t nail down and worries that make us wonder at times, which way to turn. We face financial crises, life-threatening illnesses, and even death. Hebrews 4:15 tells us we have a high priest, Jesus Christ, who has been tempted in every way, just as we are. This not only refers to sinful temptations, but would also include all the tests and trials we often face. Jesus knows just how we feel, because He had a human body and all of our human emotions. That’s why we are invited to approach God’s throne of grace with confidence, so that we may receive mercy and find grace to help us in our time of need. (Hebrews 4:16)
God loves it when we come to Him with our infirmities and other difficulties we’re facing, but our key verse indicates that He wants us to do more than talk about them. The Greek word for “cast” literally means ‘to throw upon.” It brings the image to mind of fishermen who throw their nets upon the water. In order to cast the nets, one has to let go of them. The form of this Greek word indicates an action done once and for all. So, we might say, “Lord, I’m throwing all my worries and problems into Your hands and I’m leaving them there. They are more than I can handle, and I know that You can take care of them.”
Let’s not limit our amazing and powerful God with whom all things are possible. Jesus assured us that the God who feeds the birds will certainly take care of His children as well. Let’s keep our eyes lifted up and focused on God because “(Our) help comes from the Lord, the Maker of heaven and earth. Ps. 121:1. No matter how rough the waters may seem, God cares, He is there, and He will carry us through.
