For with God nothing will be impossible. Luke 1:37
Imagine trying to explain to Thomas Jefferson and John Adams how, instead of all the Constitutional Convention delegates traveling to Philadelphia for deliberations in 1787, they could connect by video chat over computers, tablets, or smartphones are use a ZOOM meeting. “Ridiculous,” they would say, “that’s impossible!” It’s amazing how many ways time has turned “impossible” into “possible.”
As many “miracles” or “wonders” as mankind has accomplished, not all things are possible where man is concerned. But where God is concerned, “The things which are impossible with men are possible with God” (Luke 18:27). That’s what the angel Gabriel told Mary about the possibility of a virgin giving birth to a child: “For with God nothing will be impossible.” Notice the future tense of those words: “will be.” Every time we think of something that is impossible, it’s a future event—and God knows the future.
One of the reasons that we have the Bible, is to see how God can work His amazing miracles and accomplish things that would never be imagined. Sometimes we are spending so much time doubting whether or not God can do something, we end up missing the blessings.
Mary doubted when the angel announced to her the birth of Jesus. “How will this be, since I am a virgin?” But after the explanation, she trusted in the impossible: “I am the Lord’s servant,” Mary answered. “May your word to me be fulfilled.”
In John 11, Martha expressed doubts when Jesus said that he would raise Lazarus from the dead. Impossible! There must have been another explanation. Jesus said, “Martha, I am the resurrection and the life. Do you believe this?” It wasn’t until Martha responded, “Yes Lord, I believe,” that He made the impossible possible.
Perhaps you are looking at a future event, at the moment, that seems impossible today. Share your need with God and trust Him, and say to Him, “Yes Lord, I believe. My your word to me be fulfilled.” What looks impossible to us looks possible to God. His combination of love and power means nothing is impossible for Him where His children are concerned.
